Daniel, you see i have always had a problem with social commentators or civil society groups. In advocacy they have always tried to paint the mining companies as total nation wreckers. The upper west has lots and lots to learn from the likes of tarkwa bogoso prestea just to mention a few. Other words these towns virtually had no lessons to learn. We also must know that the mining companies are business entities seeking to satisfy shareholder interest and such cost minimization is key in that. We also must know the pros and cons in giving out our lands for mining activities. Advocacy groups and individuals should always sensitise the communities on the dangers in giving out lands for such activities. Instead they attempt to chop from both side of the divide and this leads to unrest esp with communities rising against the.companies. Could you believe that some will incite the communities to go destroy the cyanide dump causing the spillage into water bodies then you turn around make noise and government would then say hey massa pay damages to the community and the state. We do all these yet we expect huge CSRs

"with supportive legal system and stable government as well as an English- speaking population." in Wa East? ... "the company was also exploring for gold at a concession in the Wa East District and gold mining in the region will mark the beginning of a turning point vision to empower local people economically and socially to come out from the shackles of poverty and enhance livelihoods." Seriously?

I havebeen talking about this and people are just not listening to me! 20million dollers spent so far on exploration and the CSR for communities is what? That "Ghana had a track record in gold mining investment and development with low country risk rating, with supportive legal system and stable government as well" How much have we benefited as a nation. We have porous legislative framework that support looting and exploitation. If we do not wake up and act, this region will become like other mining communities we have in Ghana. Is someone listening to me?
