Private helicopter carrying gold forced landing at Kumikrom

A private helicopter carrying boxes of gold bars from Chirano Mines in Bibiani to Accra, developed a mechanical fault and made an emergency landing in a harvested corn field at Kumikrom near Asamankese.

According to Police Sergeant Francis Gomado, Deputy Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer who briefed the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Asamankese Police Service was called in to rush to the scene to provide security.

On arrival at the scene of the incident, the police found the faulty helicopter with its luggage intact with four crew members on board the helicopter.

The crew were made up of Captain Abdul Salam, the pilot of the helicopter, Ms Gifty Danso, a customs officer, Mr David Fosu and Mr Enoch Agyei Kumi, internal security men of the mining company.

Sergeant Gomado said another helicopter arrived later at the scene to pick the boxes of the gold bars and the distressed crew of the faulty helicopter to Accra.
He said the faulty helicopter was still at Kumikrom under police guard. GNA
