Upper West Regional Minister loses Parliamentary seat

Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemana, the Upper West Regional Minister and incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sissala West Constituency, has lost his seat.

He polled 9,762 votes in last Wednesday’s election while the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Mr Patrick Al-Hassan Adama got 13,130 votes.

Mr. Katuo A. Henry of the National Democratic Party (NDP) polled 221 votes, with Mr. Nankpa Murana of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) polling 49 votes.

For the Presidential election, Mr. John Dramani Mahama of the NDC polled 11,393 votes to beat his main rival, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the NPP who polled 11,107 votes.

Mr. Ivor Kwabena Greenstreet of the CPP and Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings of the NDP got 77 and 73 votes respectively.

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) polled 82 votes and Mr. Edward Nasigri Mahama of the PNC got 174 votes, with Mr. Jacob Osei Yeboah, Independent candidate obtaining 18 votes.

The constituency has a voter population of 23,575 with 23,162 valid votes cast and 413 rejected ballots in the Parliamentary poll.

There were 22,924 valid votes cast for the Presidential with 681 rejected votes. GNA
