The candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been projected to win Ghana’s 2016 Presidential election.
Accra based Joy FM made the projection early Friday morning saying it is statistically impossible for incumbent President John Dramani Mahama to get the 50% plus 1 vote needed to secure a second term.
VibeGhana sources at the EC however, reports that the electoral body will not be releasing its final results until it has verified the total numbers including those coming in from areas which experienced delayed voting.
The Electoral Commission on Thursday said it has 72 hours to release the full official result per an agreement it signed with all the political parties.
At the time of the Joy News projection, the NPP candidate Akufo-Addo had 4,213,710 while the sitting President John D Mahama had 3,710,702 votes from 206 constituencies all figures from provisional results.
