Ghana election 2016: EC calls for calm, explains delays

ghana-electoral-commissionThe Electoral Commission (EC) has said the delay in releasing certified results of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections are due to instances of over voting in some polling stations.

Mr Eric Kofi Fleming Dzakpasu, the EC Head of Communications, said at a press conference that the Commission had received complaints of instances of over voting in some polling stations and the results were being cross checked at the collation centres to make sure that such occurrences were addressed.

Mr Dzakpasu said the statement of polls and the summary of results would be used to cross check and validate the results before they were declared by the Commission.

He said results of the constituency collation centres had started trickling in at the National Collation Centre.
