Police arrest and detain three over fake polls accreditation

Three people have been arrested and detained by the police in Kumasi over the printing of fake Electoral Commission (EC) accreditation cards.

Their names were given as Stephen Djan, 54, Amoah Gyasi, 37, and Richard Bawuah, 41.

One other person, whose name was given as Sly, managed to slip through.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Yussif Tanko of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, told journalists that the suspects were caught right in the right.

He said the police acted upon information and that 32 faked cards were retrieved.

ASP Tanko said it was reasonable to assume that the cards would have given those they were meant for, access to polling centres, where they ordinarily would not be allowed to enter.

The matter, he indicated, was being investigated.
