The Ghana Air Force (GHF) has inaugurated a 16-Unit chamber and hall self contain apartment in Accra christened “EK Asante Lodge” to house young Air Force officers.
The edifice, which started in January 2015 as a Public Private Partnership with Paragon Homes is part of GHF’s complementary effort to help the government and the Military High Command in finding some solution to the acute residential accommodation problems facing the Ghana Armed Forces.
The accommodation block named after Group Captain Emmanuel Krobea Asante (Rtd) is in honour of his outstanding professionalism, distinguished service and exemplary leadership qualities.
Air Marhsal Michael Samson-Oje, the Chief of Defence Staff in a speech read on his behalf said the GAF had over the years seen an increase in its human resource base without a corresponding increase in the relevant supporting logistics.
He said many of the young officers had to live outside the Military Cantonments and commute over long distance daily to work therefore the Command acknowledged the negative impact of the situation on the morale of the personnel and it was in the light of this that the GHF had over the years made a number of interventions to solve the problem.
Air Marshal Samson-Oje appealed to all likeminded organisations to help in their own small manner to provide dignified places of abode for the selfless and dedicated young men and women who had pledged to protect the territorial integrity of Ghana even at the peril of their lives.
Air Vice Marshal Maxwell Mantsebi-Tei Nagai, the Chief of Air Staff expressed gratitude to Mr Paa Kwesi Serebuor, the Chief Executive Officer of Paragon Homes and all who contributed in diverse ways to make the project a reality.
Group Captain Asante expressed gratitude to the GHF for the honour.
He was commissioned into the GHF on April 26 1971 with Regular/Service Intake 14.
He went through all his professional courses and held various appointments in the GHF.
Group Captain Asante acted as the Chief Staff Officer at the Air Force Headquarters in 1998 and was confirmed barely a year later.
He occupied the highest staff appointment at the Air Force Headquarters for three years till he was honourably released in September 2001 after 30 years of long dedicated and loyal service with the Colours.
On Friday June 19 2015, the GHF inaugurated the Group Captain Jones-Mensah lodge, a 19 room apartment in Accra. GNA
