EC extends voting on Dwarf and Didza Islands

At the end of polls at 1700 hours throughout out the country, the Electoral Commission (EC) extended the voting period by five hours at the Dwarf and Didza Islands in the Afram Plains North.

It was due to late start of voting.

Mr Samuel Tettey, the EC Director of Elections at a media briefing in Accra said the military started airlifting electoral materials to the two Islands at 0930 hours, and they were able to do that in the pace of two hours.

He said polling would close on both islands at 2200 hours, but anyone in the queue before the closing time would be permitted to vote.

Mr Tettey described the conduct of the polls as generally peaceful.

He said the biometric verification machines (BVDs) worked perfectly.

In another development Mr Tettey has announced the postponement of polls in the Jaman North Constituency in the Brong- Ahafo Region to Thursday, December 8.

He said the postponement became necessary when the people were not voting due to disagreements among the political parties over the voters register and a standoff between the EC Officials and members of the community. GNA
