Mr Nuhu Mahama, the Deputy Volta Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) says the Commission is bent on ensuring that Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are not left out of the 2016 general election.
He therefore encouraged the PWDs to go to the polling stations to cast their votes because it was their right as citizens.
Mr Mahama said this when Share Ghana, a non-governmental organisation that sees to the well-being of PWDs and people with immune disorders sensitised PWDs on how to exercise their franchise on Wednesday.
Madam Malwine Amoak, Project Coordinator of Share Ghana, South Dayi Constituency, said as part of the organisation’s core mandate of seeing to the well-being of PWDs, they had organised the sensitisation programme nationwide to help them understand how to cast their votes.
She said despite their physical conditions, PWDs still had the right to vote, hence the need for the sensitisation.
Madam Amoako said her outfit brought the programme to the doorstep of the people so that they could directly and effectively communicate with them.
Mr. Frank Manuel Oboom, a participant applauded the EC for the work so far and for ensuring that PWDs had the chance to exercise their franchise. GNA
