NPP calls for probe in to Mahama Ford gift saga

Freddie BlayThe opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is demanding a bi-partisan probe into the car gift saga involving President Mahama.

The vehicle which was given to President Mahama in 2012 by a Burkinabe contractor, Oumarou Djibril Kanazoe has raised questions about the possibility of the President engaging in a conflict of interest situation.

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) is this morning beginning a detailed assessment of two petitions accusing the President of conflict of interest.

Deputy Commissioner of CHRAJ, Joseph Whittal has assured the public it will not allow any political pressure to interfere with its investigations.

But it appears the NPP is not convinced with the Commission’s assurances and are asking for a bi partisan probe. Adom News’ Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom who was at the news conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra reported that, the Acting Chairman Freddy Blay said they believe Parliament will do a good job.

He indicated that, it will do President John Mahama a lot of good if he comes out to defend himself after the exposé. “Mr. President, it will be better to come out and defend yourself because your friend, Kanazoe has confessed to giving you bribe” Mr. Blay stated. The NPP Chairman added that, the President has also flouted his own code of conduct which debars any government appointee from talking gift.
If their request does not yield results, Freddie Blay said the NPP will be left with no other choice than to drag President Mahama to CHRAJ.
