Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, the Western Regional Minister, has called on Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of good sanitary practices to support the Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) to discharge its environmental duties.
He said though the Zoomlion Company has accepted the duty to join the existing waste management companies to clean the environment and manage waste, the public must make the task less difficult by behaving responsibly in their surroundings.
Mr Aidoo said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Regional Environmental Health Officer, Mr Douglas Tagoe, at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Zoomlion Company in Takoradi.
The Minister said waste management is a collective responsibility and Ghanaians must disabuse the notion that once institutions existed for that responsibility they could behave anyhow in the environment.
Mr Stephen Gyekye Darko, the Regional Managing Director of the ZGL, expressed his company’s preparedness to execute its functions to the satisfaction of the citizenry and urged the 4,000 employees including the 300 core staff in the region to eschew negative attitudes towards work.
Mr Darko said the company has plans to adopt scientific methods to manage waste at the established land fill sites in various communities. GNA
