The University of Education Winneba (UEW) has added six new study centers to the existing 27 locations, bringing the total number of centers to 33.
The new ones are located at Asamankese, Denu, Ejisu, Krobo Odumase, Setwi Wiaso and Yendi.
Professor Mawutor Avoke, Vice Chancellor (VC) of UEW, made this known at the matriculation of 8,579 under graduate distance education students.
He said 259 students have already been matriculated to undertake post-graduate programmes.
Professor Avoke said UEW has also introduced to new programmes for the 2015/2016 academic year and they are a one-year Diploma in Education and one-year post-graduate diploma by distance education.
“These new programmes are meant to give Higher National Diploma (HND) and degree holders without the professional education background, the opportunity to become professional teachers”, he said.
Prof Avoke said the goal of the Distance Education Programme of UEW is not only to help them acquire certificates to enhance their salaries or to gain promotion but to change their total outlook, understanding and commitment to their duties.
As professional teachers and business executives under training, you should be seen as role models and it is incumbent on you to set good examples to the general public and the thousands of school pupils who look up to you, he said. GNA
