Akomea criticises Afoko’s leadership style

Nana AkomeaCommunications Director of NPP, Nana Akomea has admitted the party is in some crisis but says the leadership style of some of the suspended officers caused the situation.

“I think that there has been a certain leadership style that has brought the turmoil,” he told host of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Kojo Yankson Friday.
The New Patriotic Party yesterday suspended Kwabena Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe, General Secretary and Second National Chairman respectively for misconducting themselves and acting against the interest of the party.

The suspension follows similar action taken against the party’s National Chairman Paul Afoko on October 23.

The three were elected in April last year at the party’s delegates’ conference in Tamale.

But the party was plunged into chaos immediately after their election, Nana Akomea recalled.

“In the Afoko administration, we seem to have this turmoil right after the Tamale congress in April last year, which elected them; right after, the turmoil started,” he pointed out.

Some party supporters resort to protests to demand the removal of Afoko and Agyepong.

The Communications Director recounted when the suspended trio assumed office, “There were dismissals being made which were deemed to be unilateral, there were changes being made, which were deemed to be unilateral, there were decisions which were being made…”

He said such confusion was never experienced under administrations that preceded Paul Afoko’s.

“If you remember, we didn’t have this kind of turmoil in the Mac Manu administration 2007/8. We didn’t have this kind of turmoil in the Obetsebi administration 2010, 2011/12,” he stated.

Nana Akomea also explained that the party had wished things didn’t get to this extent but all efforts to live in harmony proved futile.

Even attempt by former President Kufuor who summoned religious leaders to help bring peace in the party “didn’t work”.

“There have been several attempts by well-meaning party people, well-meaning Ghanaians including foreign sympathizers to get everybody to come to the middle, to work in a collective spirit, I am sure you are aware of those efforts,” he revealed.

He also discounted views that the unanimous suspension of the three would cost the party as the nation goes to the polls next year.

“The party is clearly convinced of this course of action at this time is the right thing to do,” he said.
