A person close to suspended New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairman Paul Afoko, has told a VibeGhana.com source that unless the National Council of the party acts swiftly to reinstate Afoko, Ghanainas will soon witness the birth of a new political party.
The aide who requested strict anonymity because of Afoko’s pending appeal before the National Council said the suspended chairman will give the NPP leadership an opportunity to “save their face” or face disgrace in oppossition.
“We are giving the National Council a chance to save their face so that they don’t suffer disgrace in oppossition. Look at how they are treating him (Afoko) like nobody when he has sacrified all his life for the party.”
He said support for Mr. Afoko to launch a new political party is growing and warns that if the National Council were to reject Afoko’s latest appeal for reinstatement, the Elephant party will split.
“He still believes in the party (NPP) but if they say they don’t want him, I can assure you that he has enough support to form a new party, many serniors in the party support him and will join us.”
Mr. Paul Afoko on Monday, petitioned the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rule as unconstitutional the suspension meted out to him by the National Executive Council of the party on October 23rd 2015.
The veto wilding National Council is the highest decision making body of the NPP.
