The Volta Institute of Development Studies (VIDS), an NGO, is to establish a Development and Entrepreneurship Centre in Ho to promote business activities as well as generate interest in the agriculture sector among the youth.
The Chief Executive Officer CEO of VIDS, Mr Courage Dei-Zanga announced this at a day’s summit in Ho for businesses in the region.
The summit was organised in collaboration with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council and aims to equip business executives with the necessary knowledge and skill to enable them run their businesses successfully.
According to Mr Dei-Zanga, the summit, the first of its kind in the region is expected to empower the people to be abreast of some government policies and business opportunities around the world.
He said the Investment division of Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, Public Private Partnership in the office of the President, Venture Capital Trust Fund were the main facilitators.
Mr Joseph Amenorwode, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Volta Caucus, who chaired the summit, said he was unhappy about parental influence of children to pursue white colour jobs instead of encouraging them to establish business ventures through their own efforts.
He, therefore, urged the youth to take advantage of the summit and come out with ideas that would enable them initiate business avenues to supplement government’s job creation efforts.
The Deputy Regional Minister Mr Francis Ganyaglo congratulated the organisers of the summit and promised government’s support for the project in the region.
Participants used the platform to call on government to invest more in small and medium enterprises in the region. GNA
