Ghana and Canada are set play their second ever encounter at senior level when they lock horns in an international friendly on Tuesday.

The match, slated for the RFK Stadium in Washington DC, USA, would provide the Black Stars the opportunity to equal the records, having suffered a 2-1 defeat in a similar exhibition in 1985.

Both teams will use the match as warm up ahead of their 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in November.

Ghana have suffered a blow, with a series of player withdrawals, as many as nine regulars.

Captain Asamoah Gyan has been ruled out due to injury concern, same as Andre Ayew, Christian Atsu and Rabiu Mohammed, while Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman, Richmond Boakye-Yiadom, Daniel Amartey and Jonathan Mensah would also miss out due to visa issues.

Portland Timbers goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey has asked to be excused while fit-again Juventus man Kwadwo Asamoah has been given time off to fully recover his form.

However, coach Avram Grant would count on the likes of in-form Leicester City defender Jeffery Schlupp, Harrison Afful, Afriyie Acquah, Agyemang Badu and Majeed Waris, while debutants Lloyd Sam, Kwadwo Poku, Gideon Baah and Eintracht Braunschweig defender Phil Ofosu-Ayeh could be in for their first crack of national action.

Canada coach Benito Floro, on the other hand, has an almost full house, including debutants Fraser Aird of Glasgow Rangers, Marco Bustos, WandrilleLefèvre and Queens Park Rangers’ David Junior Hoilett.

San Antonio Scorpions’ Nana Atakora Gyan, born to Ghanaian parents, is also in line to face the country of his heritage.

“Ghana has high quality in their team and we know there are new players coming through with some who are based here in America,” Canada assistant coach Michael Findley said at the pre-match presser.

“They have some key players injured but we can’t take their team for granted. We have done our research on the team and we are aware of the competition Ghana will give.”

The match is set to kick of 7:00 pm local time (11:00 GMT Ghana time).
