The 25-year-old has started his EPL campaign on a highly positive note after emerging as the best player for the month of August
Ghana winger Andre Ayew has been named the best player in the English Premier League for the month of August.
The former Marseille player beat off competition from his Swansea team-mate Bafe Gomis as well as Manchester City’s David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov. Chris Smalling of Manchester United and Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City also made the list.
Ayew has three goals and one assist to his credit after the first four matches in the English top-flight.
He becomes the first Swansea player to win the award since Gylfi Sigurdsson in March 2012.
The former Ghana U20 captain paid tribute to his team-mates for making this feat possible.
“It’s a great feeling, but this award comes from hard work and support by the whole squad.
“It’s more of a collective award rather than an individual award because we’ve worked very hard from pre-season until now,” he told Swansea’s official website.
“It shows there is a lot of quality and determination in this team. The most important thing for me is the unity and team spirit we have shown.
“The guys have really helped me by telling me how the league works and by giving me confidence to do what I can do. I can work even harder and do more.
“If we continue in the same way a lot of our players can pick up awards, but what is important is that Swansea continue to win games,” he added.
Ayew recently captained Ghana to beat Rwanda 1-0 in Kigali in the 2017 Afcon qualifier.
