The Sekondi Police have arrested two suspects for requesting to buy human parts from the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital Mortuary in Sekondi.
The suspects,John Kyei Quadoo, 30, and Alhassan Abubakar,57, a traditional herbalist, had been granted police enquiry bail to report at the police station periodically.
The Western Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Reuben Asiwoko, confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency,in Sekondi, over the weekend.
He said, on Friday, August 28, Quadoo, who resides at Ketan Estate, near Sekondi, went to the hospital mortuary and told the mortuary attendant, one Christopher Dadzie that, he wanted to buy an albino or whiteman’s hair and the water used to bath corpses.
The mortuary attendant became alarmed and asked him to wait for some minutes and quickly informed the head of the hospital mortuary,Mr. Noah Ayisi.
Mr. Ayisi then alerted the Sekondi Police and Quaidoo was subsequently arrested.
Upon his arrest, he told the police in his caution statement that,it was Alhassan Abubakar, a herbalist residing at Adiembra Ridge, near Sekondi, who sent him for the items, to perform rituals.
The police therefore arrested Abubakar on the same day at his house and both suspects were placed in police custody and charged for offensive conduct. GNA
