Accra, September 7, 2015 – MTN Ghana has launched the 5th edition of its i-Fest initiative, an annual month-long Internet festival to drive awareness about the internet services it provides on its robust network.
The iFest celebration highlights the enormous benefits that the internet provides to consumers and businesses, and this year’s celebration is under the theme Creating Awareness of the Relevance of the Internet in a Connected Society.
Speaking at the launch, Ebenezer Asante, CEO of MTN Ghana said, “In today’s connected society, we have adopted the use of the Internet for communication, work and entertainment. The Internet is now central to our very livelihoods, and if used properly, enhances our relationships and improves our efficiency and productivity.”
Since the inception of i-Fest in 2011, MTN Ghana has in September each year, promoted the use of the internet through data clinics and data activations across all regions of Ghana and selected tertiary institutions in the country.
With a vision to lead the delivery of a bold, new digital world to its customers, MTN Ghana will as part of the 2015 edition of the i-Fest initiative, organize activities such as Apps Challenge Version 3.0, regional data clinics and activations for trade associations and students, regional mobile device fairs and several contests.
In line with efforts to reward MTN customers, every data bundle purchased during the period of the celebration will attract a 100% bonus. There will also be lots of giveaways in the various i-Fest competitions to be held.
To further encourage the use of the internet by all and sundry, the One Nation project was launched as part of the activities to empower citizens to report on stories or issues occurring in their communities using their smart devices. This project will give the various reporters the opportunity to win prizes as part of i-Fest 2015. To participate i-reporters will have to send videos, audios, or pictures to 0244466606 which will link the reporters to the rest of the world.
MTN Ghana has indicated that for the year 2015, it is investing over $103m into network and infrastructure development to ensure a solid backbone for reliable and efficient service delivery.
Through the activities related to i-Fest, MTN Ghana hopes to engage Ghanaians to create awareness of the Internet and how to reap its benefits. MTN also seeks to reward the most innovative local apps in Ghana through the Apps Challenge and make these apps available to its customers.
