A 26-year old illegal miner at Achiase, a community in the Ejisu-Juaben District has appeared before the Konongo Magistrates’ court over the theft of a fowl.
Akwasi Matthew broke into the kitchen of a farmer and stole the bird on Friday, August 21, at about 0100 hours.
The Konongo Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Mrs. Priscila Yeboah, has asked him to answer the charges of stealing and threatening.
The accused pleaded not guilty and he was granted GHȼ1,000 bail to reappear on September 16.
Police Detective Sergeant Ben Ainoo, said the farmer, Kwame Musah, was awoken from his sleep by an unusual noise coming from his kitchen and decided to find out what was happening.
He got there only to see Matthew holding one of his fowls. The accused took to his heels but was given a hot chase by Musah, until he caught up with him.
Matthew then pulled a knife and threatened to slash the complainant but he still managed to arrest him. GNA
