The Obuasi-based side close in on title as close contenders fall while Kotoko make it five matches unbeaten
Leaders Ashanti Gold are on the verge of winning their first title in 18 years as they opened a four-point lead at the summit of the table after Aduana Stars stumbled on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday, Ashanti Gold managed to steal a point from the revered Golden City Park, courtesy of an Emmanuel Osei penalty to secure a 2-2 draw at Berekum Chelsea. Mohammed Yakubu had earlier scored for the visitors while Kofi Owusu and Latif Salifu scored for the home side.
However, on Sunday, second-placed Aduana failed to keep the chase on AshGold as they fell to Heart of Lions by 1-0 at the Kpando Park. Prince Acquah scored the only goal of the match from the spot.
An Edward Ebo Mends’ strike was enough to secure all three points for Liberty Professionals as they narrowly piped Inter-Allies 1-0 at the Carl Reindorf Park.
Elsewhere, at the Accra Sports Stadium, Godwin Attram scored twice and missed a penalty as Great Olympics picked a 2-0 victory at home over WAFA.
At the Bechem Park, a 62nd Noah Martey penalty handed all three points to Bechem United in a 1-0 win over Wa All Stars.
Meanwhile, Medeama and Hearts of Oak settled for a point each, as they played out a pulsating 0-0 stalemate at the Tarkwa T&A Park.
Asante Kotoko made it five matches unbeaten following a 4-2 win over BA United at the Baba Yara Stadium. Amos Frimpong and Obed Owusu scored a goal each for the Porcupine Warriors while Richard Mpong scored twice. Abdul Karim Tabla and Abdul Wahab scored for the visitors.
Finally at the Len Clay Stadium, New Edubiase snatched a 2-1 victory over Hasaacas with goals from Bernard Ofori and Anabila Latif, while Federick Quayson netted the lone goal for the away side.
