Ghana Premier LeagueBoth Hearts of Oak and Heart of Lions are on campaign-reviving missions, while AshGold are under pressure to protect their four-point lead

The Ghana Premier League returns with mid-week action across eight league centres. A lot of attention will be on three centres- Sogakope, Cape Coast and Obuasi, where Kotoko, Hearts and AshGold will be involved in their respective fixtures.

In Sogakope, fans of Kotoko will be following the match keenly to see how their team reacts to last Sunday’s embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Berekum Chelsea at home. The defeat left this year’s MTN FA Cup finalists just three points away from the relegation zone, and a defeat to WAFA could drag them into the bottom three. WAFA, under Dutch trainer, John Kila, have been very impressive especially at their own backyard.

Elsewhere in Cape Coast, Hearts of Oak will be using the Robert Mensah Stadium as their home ground for their week 23 fixture as they continue to serve a temporary home ban. They come up against Heart of Lions, one of their “stubborn” opponents in the Ghanaian top-flight. Hearts have lost four matches and drawn one in their last five outings across three domestic competitions. The Phobians will need the win badly to move out of the bottom three, so as Lions, who are just a place ahead of Hearts of Oak with a two-point advantage.

League leaders AshantiGold, who have had their seven-point advantage reduced to four following a 2-1 loss to Heart of Lions last Sunday, take on Edubaise FC at the Len Clay Stadium in a local derby. While AshGold need the maximum points to maintain or consolidate their lead, their opponents are also battling to move further away from the relegation pit.

Berekum Chelsea will fancy their chances against Liberty Professionals at the Golden City Park as they lie just four points behind the leaders.

Meanwhile, two relegation-threatened sides – BA United and Accra Great Olympics – will clash at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

Wa All Stars will host Aduana Stars, while Medeama SC take on Bechem United. Inter-Allies and Hasaacas also have a date at the Tema Stadium.
