The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command has arrested two Police Constables for escorting 390 bags of stolen cocoa fertilizers from Sankore in the Asonafo South District in Brong-Ahafo Region to Kumasi.
The fertilizers have a total market value of GHC50,000.00
Briefing the Media on Tuesday in Sunyani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP)Mr. Maxwell Sakipasgo Atingane, Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander mentioned the culprits as Constables Osei Tutu, 21 and Kyei Amoah, 27.
DCOP Atingane said both offenders are stationed in Kumasi, and their accomplice, Yaw Boahen, also aged 27, a civilian driver of the vehicle they used, would be arraigned before the law court today on a charge of abetment of crime and stealing .
He said the Police on Sunday, July 19,2015, at about 2200 hours intercepted a cargo truck with registration number GT-7050-A, loaded with 390 bags of cocoa fertilizers at the Akyerensua Police check point, heading towards Kumasi.
DCOP Atingane said Police investigations revealed that the consignment was allocated to cocoa farmers at Sankore in the Asonafo South District.
The Police said the main perpetrator behind the act was one Job, of Job and sons Agro Chemicals at Sankore, who is now at large, he added.
He urged the general public to assist the Police with information to deal with all forms of crimes in the Region.
Mr. Thomas Tweneboah-Kodua, Brong-Ahafo Regional Manager of Cocoa Health and Extension Division, said about 130 acres of cocoa farms would have been deprived of fertilizers, if they had succeeded in delivering the stolen fertilizers. GNA
