Millions in Nigeria to lose cell phone services

mtnThe largest cell phone service provider in Nigeria announced Saturday that services to millions of customers will be interrupted if fuel shortage in the country continues.

MTN Nigeria with over 50 million customers says finding fuel to keep their service uninterrupted is becoming more difficult and that unless the situation improves within the next 24-hours customers’ services will suffer.

According to a company post picked up by VibeGhana.com on its official twitter page, MTN Nigeria said it uses diesel generators to power base stations and switches and the shortage of fuel in the country has “drastically reduced the availability of diesel supply to key locations”.

“MTN’s available reserves of diesel are running low and the company must source for significant quantity of diesel in the near future to prevent a shut down of services across Nigeria”.
