Gideon Kwartey Quartey defeated Eugene Nyarko Appiah to emerge as President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF), at their maiden congress held on Monday.
Quartey who pulled 27 votes of 45, is set to lead the association for four years.
The election held at the Theodosa Okoh Hockey Stadium, and supervised by the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), saw Quartey pulling 27 votes out of the 45 delegates against 16 by his opponent.
In the first Vice President category, George Lamptey earned 17 votes to win the seat while Abdul Samedu Mohammed won the second Vice President slot.
Bernard Quartey was elected the Treasurer unopposed, with Theophilus Edwin Addo and Ebenezer Ofori Quaye getting the nod for Executive Members.
Quartey told GNA Sports “I was expecting to win because I have being in the game for many years and my work spoke volumes. I am ready to work with all the executives and ensure we push amateur boxing forward. There will be a national amateur league and an annual event to push the game.”
The President of the GOC, Francis Dodoo charged the elected officers to work hard and put Amateur boxing on a different level. GNA
