Martha Bissah brushed aside competition from Vivian Foshua to win gold in the 800 metres women final at the Ghana Open Championship organized by the Ghana Athletics Association (GOC) at the El- Wak Stadium.
Bissah who became the first Ghanaian to win an Olympic Gold in the Women 800m final at the Youth Olympics in China last year, ran 2: 12: 78 to emerge winner.
In the men’s 100m category, John Kofi Osei from the Ashanti Region run 10.53 to place first whilst Abruyah Happy was crowned winner in the Women 100m category with a time of 12.51.
In other categories, Robert Annak placed first in the 400m men with a time of 48.55, whilst Ralio Derzu from the Upper East won the men’s 1500m competition.
Sakat Lariba also from the Upper East won the 1500m women’s race and Iddrisu Shawkwa from the Ghana Prisons Service came first in the 400m women’s competition.
The Championship offered opportunities to talented athletes to sharpen and set the platform for potential athletics world beaters to be identified and nurtured to return Ghana to the top at international competitions. GNA
