A member of the communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Agbesi Nutsu has described former Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani as the best Ghana has ever had.
According to the NDC communicator, Mr Mpiani was able to discharge his duties despite interference from government and other officials.
Kwadwo Mpiani was the second chief of staff during former President Kufuor‘s two terms as president, taking over from Jake Obetsebi Lamptey in the middle of the first term. Because of his responsibilities and powers, many referred to him as the Prime Minister of Ghana.
Mr. Nutsu’s appraisal comes in the wake of the changes taking place at the seat of government in the Mahama administration, two, possibly three senior officials packing out.
Government yesterday announced the departure of Executive Secretary to the President, Raymond Atuguba and Ben Dotse Malor, Senior Communications Consultant to the President.
Also said to be on his was out, although the rumours have been denied so far, is Chief of Staff Prosper Bani. Deputy Chief of Staff, Valerie Sawyerr is reported to be Mr Bani’s replacement.
According to the NDC communicator, the leadership traits seen in the former chief of staff is missing in President Mahama’s Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani, because he appears to “lack authority” over government appointees.
Agbesi Nutsu has therefore backed moves by the President to ship out appointees who are not delivering, saying they are working for their own good and not the vision of a Better Ghana.
“If a leader is not giving all his best to develop the nation, then that leader must be fired and so I strongly support the president on that bold decision.
“We need people like the NDC Chairman, Kofi Porturphy because he is capable of being the next chief of staff” he declared on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Thursday February 5, 2015.
