Popular Ghanaian TV star Kwasi Kyei Darkwah also known as KKD has been denied a bail at his first hearing in his allege rape case.
The Kaneshie District Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered that Mr. Darkwah be held in jail until his next court appearance on January 8th of 2015.
A member of his defense team who did not want to be named told VibeGhana.com that they are very disappointed at the decision by the court to keep KKD behind bars into the new year.
“Our plan was to get him a bail but the court says no, there is nothing we can do. very sad, but we will fight this case to clear his name soon.”
A 19-year-old whose identity is not yet known said Mr. Darkwah raped her inside a bathroom at the African Regent Hotel on Saturday.
She launched a complaint with the Airport Police on the same day at which time officers were ordered to locate Mr Darkwah to take him to the scene of the incident to re-enact the episode for them.
The KKD man who denied the rape allegation levelled against him gave the police his own account of what had happened inside the bathroom on that day but was still put under arrest pending investigation.
On Monday the police were late in transporting KKD to the court to answer to the charges he faces and had him sent back to jail to reappear the next day Tuesday, where his lawyers had hope to get him out on bail.
Today: Court denies KKD bail and asked that he be kept in jail until he reappears at the court on January 8th of next year.
