The Ghana Stock Exchange – listed gold miner, AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) has received a platinum award for its contribution to the development of the Ashanti Region.
A statement issued by the company and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Friday said the award was conferred on the company by the Ashanti Regional Business Excellence Award
It said the group commended the company for continuously striving to remain a key development partner in the Region “even in the midst of operational challenges.”
The Excellence awards scheme was set up in 2000 under the auspices of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to identify and appreciate the contribution of the business community to the growth and development of the Region.
AngloGold Ashanti, which has been operating in the Region for the past 11 decades was selected for the award, having being endorsed by key stakeholders in the business community.
The statement said they include the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Association of Ghana Industries, Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana Tourism Authority, Timber Industry Development of the Forestry Commission, Bank of Ghana and the National Insurance Commission.
“They acknowledged the fact that AGA is one of the leading foreign exchange earners, and a regular payer of taxes to both local Obuasi Municipal Assembly and the national government,” it said.
The statement added that the company had also created scores of opportunities in line with its community and sustainable development values, to ensure communities and societies where it operated benefited from its presence. GNA
