Yussif Ahmed, alias “Shitu Idowu” was found with large quantities of heroin and cocaine.
He was charged with conspiracy, importation, possession and supplying illegal drugs without authority and convicted after his guilty plea.
One other person, who stood trial with him, Adeleke Idowu, alias “Sampson”, however, denied wrong doing and the court, presided over by Mrs Afia Adu-Amankwaah, remanded him into prison custody to make his next appearance on Monday, July 14.
An Assistant State Attorney, Cecilia Animah, said the two were arrested by officers from the Ashanti Regional Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on March 23, at about 0200 hours, based on intelligence report.
Ahmed and Idowu had arrived in Kumasi from Nigeria and a search conducted in their rooms at Twumduase uncovered large quantities of heroin and cocaine concealed in a white polythene bag.
Various currencies – cedis, dollars, CFA and naira, believed to be proceeds from the drug trade, were also seized. GNA
