A non-profit organization The Noor Al-Hidaayah Charity has launched its 2014 Ramadan food drive operation.
Hikma Umar, The President of the New York City based charity says her group is kicking off the Ramadan season early to enable them collect as much help for the needy who break their fast mostly at their local masjids as possible.
“Ramadan starts at the end of this month so we only have a short window to do our fundraising and food collection, we intend to give items to as many masjids as possible and to make sure that when fasting people arrive to break their fast they have food”
The organization which recently made a monetary donation to a widowed-mother of six says it will randomly select the masjids with the most needs to benefit from the food drive.
“Food item donations will be targeted to the masjids with the most needs, we call on all who stand against hunger to help us make this year’s Ramadan a hunger free one”
The Vice-President of the organization Mr. Abu Tahiru Sillah on his part said the group will not rest until there is food, water and other basic living necessities at the disposal of the needy.
“we need donors to give the little they can, we also need volunteers to make this Ramadan season a successful one”.
