More than 40 people at Ntiribuoho a fast- growing community in the Afigya-Kwabre District ,have been swindled of more than GH ¢40,000.00.
An alleged confident trickster, whose name was given as AgyaTawiah alias “Agya Atta” had baited them with a promise of interest free loans to dupe them.
He was said to have collected monies ranging from GH ¢300.00 and GH ¢900.00 from his victims.
A mason, Kofi Yeboah, who together with the wife, have lost GH¢600.00, who confirmed the incident to Ghana News Agency said they had been convinced that they were going to receive 10 times the amount deposited to be repaid within a year.
He said they never suspected Agya Tawiah could dupe them because he presented himself as a devout Christian and even worshipped at the Presbyterian Church in the community.
They were therefore completely shocked when they woke up on Monday morning only to discover that Agya Tawiah had fled the town with his wife and children.
He had lived in the community for barely two months and used two weeks to execute the plan.
Mr Yeboah said they had made a formal report to the police. GNA
