A 22-year-old mobile phone thief, who escaped from police custody, has been jailed one year by the Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere- Central District.
Frank Boakye Bonsu did not deny the offence and will be brought back to court after two months for trial to begin on his initial charges of unlawful entry and stealing.
Police Inspector Nana Boamah told the Court, presided over by Mr D.W.P Amedior that Bonsu entered the room of the complainant, Frank Marfo, a farmer, who is his neighbor, at Atonsu near Nsuta and made away with his Nokia phone valued GH¢45.00.
This occurred on May 6, when Marfo had locked the door to his room and left for his farm.
On his return, he detected the theft and suspected Bonsu and immediately reported to the police who arrested him.
At the police station, Bonsu confessed to the crime and said he had sold it to pay for his debt and led the police to retrieve it.
Bonsu, who was in police custody to assist in investigations bolted in his handcuffs but the police later arrested him.
