Court remands man over defilement

The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Alex Obeng Asante, has remanded an unemployed man into prison custody over alleged sexual abuse of a 13-year old girl.

Elvis Kwabena Antwi is said to have committed the crime on April 19, 2014, at Morso in the Asante-Akim South District.

He pleaded not guilty and would make his next court appearance on May 9.

Police Inspector Manasseh Obimpeh said the victim lives with the mother in Kumasi and that they had gone to Morso (their hometown) for the Easter celebration.

The accused reportedly invited the girl and one Emmanuel Sarfo to have supper with him in his house on the day of the incident, after which he took them out for some soft drinks.

The prosecution said the victim, at about 1900 hours, was informed that her elder brother was looking for her and decided to return to the house.

He said Antwi, who had other ideas, offered to accompany her because there was a power outage in the town.

On the way, he forcibly had sex with the victim and warned her not to tell anyone about the incident or else she would die.

The mother detected changes in her the following morning but the victim refused to disclose what had gone wrong, forcing the mother to send her to the hospital, where it was discovered upon medical examination that she had been defiled.

She finally “let the cat out of the bag” leading to the arrest of Antwi. GNA
