Carpenter to spend 18 months in prison over theft

A carpenter, who broke into a drinking bar and made off with two packets of cigarette, pen drive and cash of GH ¢140.00, has been ordered by the Juaso Circuit Court to serve 18 months in prison in hard labour.

Yaw Antwi was convicted after he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.

He had committed the crime on April 6, at Banka near Gyadam in the Asante-Akim South District.

Police Inspector Manasseh Obimpe told the court over by Mr Alex Obeng Asante that the convict broke into the bar in the night through the ceiling to steal the items and cash.

The owner, Lydia Timah, detected the theft the next morning and made a formal report to the police.

Investigations led to the arrest of Antwi, who went into hiding after the crime. GNA
