Nigeria: Goodluck Jonathan fires military heads

Goodluck JonathanThe President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday fired and replaced the leadership of the country’s military.

Mr. Jonathan tapped Major General Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Mimimah as the new chief of army staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin will head the navy and Vice Marshal Adesola Nunayon Amosu will take over as the head of the air force.

The president wrapped up his reshuffling of the Nigerian Armed Forces with the appointment of Air Marshal Alex Badeh as the new chief of defense staff replacing Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim.

The Nigerian Presidency gave no reason as to why the commander of the country’s armed forces made the changes.

Goodluck Jonathan who won a fresh presidential term in 2011 is dealing with a major defection problems in his own party with many of the leadership including former president Obasanjo calling on him to quit after his term expires and for him not to seek re-election on the ticket of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
