Court fines weaver GHc1,800 for possessing stolen property

An Accra Circuit Court has fined Mohammed Musah, a weaver, GHȻ1,800.00 (150 penalty unit) or in default serve two years imprisonment for attempting to commit crime and possessing stolen property.

Mohammed was said to have attempted to commit crime, and had in his possession one royal motor bike valued GHȻ1,350.00, belonging to one Yunus Yusif.

The court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri fined the convict after the court found him guilty of possessing the stolen items, saying he had exhibited traits of remorse and was also a first offender.

Chief Superintendent Tuaruka Duuti told the court that the complainant, Ellis Gordon is a Quantity Surveyor and resides at Sahara, Dansoman, whiles the convict is a weaver residing at Zongo.

He said on June 6, 2013, at about 2045 hours, complainant was driving his Toyota Corolla private car entering his house at Sahara, when two ladies run to his car screaming that two young men on an unregistered motor bike with a pistol wanted to rob them.

The Prosecutor said the complainant drove towards the direction, from where the ladies were running from, and the convict with one other now at large on seeing the complainant jumped on the said motor bike and sped-off.

Chief Superintendent Duuti said the complainant chased them with his car and hit their motor bike at Dansoman, Mama’s Inn junction, and in the process they fell from the motor bike.

He told the court that at that moment the police patrol team, who were on their usual patrol duties arrived at the scene and arrested Mohammed, while the other person managed to escape by firing gun shots with the pistol.

The prosecution said the convict together with the unregistered motor bike were sent to the police station.

He said on July 29, 2013, complainant Yunus Yusif arrived at the police station with a police wireless message from Nima police station, that the said motor bike was stolen from him and further identified same as his, and produced the documents to it.

He said when the convict was interrogated; he told the police that the motor bike was given to him by one Adina. GNA
