An Accra Circuit Court, Presided over by Mr Francis Obiri on Monday sentenced Borketey Bortey, a bar operator at Nungua to nine months jail term for possession of narcotics drugs (India Hemp).
Bortey, who was charged with possession of narcotic drugs contrary to Section 2(1) of PNDC Law 236 pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The Prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick A. Morkeh narrating the facts of the case said on the morning of January 3, 2014 the Kpeshie Divisional Police Command organized a swoop at Nungua and its environs to clamp down on criminal activities.
The Operation was led by, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Ernest Ankumah, the Divisional Operation Commander.
DSP Morkeh said in the process the accused, Bortey was arrested with a quantity of dried leaves and 31 wrappers of leaves suspected to be narcotics drugs.
He said the accused was escorted to the Nungua Police station together with the exhibits and detained for investigations.
He said exhibits were later sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination which proved to be narcotics. GNA
