The Zabzugu District in Northern Region, has observed World AIDS Day, with a float on some principal streets to create awareness about HIV and AIDS and distributed T-shorts and condoms to the public.
Students carried placards in English and Dagbani with inscriptions, which talk about how the deadly viruses could be avoided.
In a speech read on his behalf; Mr Issifu Alidu Laa-Bandou, District Chief Executive, lauded efforts being made by the District Assembly, NGOs and other stakeholders in reducing the HIV and AIDS menace.
He cautioned the youth to lead good lives to insulate themselves from sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV and AIDS.
Ms Elizabeth Kopri, District Health Director said there is the need for every member of the District to get involved in the fight against the pandemic in order to achieve the target of zero infections, sexual abstinence, condom use and faithfulness of sexual partners.
Mr Seth Afful, District Monitoring and Evaluation Focal Person on HIV and AIDS, pleaded with the District Assembly to make 0.5 per cent of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund available to enable the District AIDS Committee to fight the pandemic. GNA
