“Former President Nelson Mandela, to me is a saint. His call to eternity is a great loss not only to South Africa or to Africa, but to the whole wide world. All humanity must be in mourning,” Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, said in a tribute to the late President on Friday.
He said: “I am deeply saddened at the passing away of President Mandela, Former President of the Republic of South Africa.
“His idea of a rainbow society, after his long and cruel incarceration in prison for his stance against apartheid, has seen all races co-exist peacefully in South Africa and has inured to the benefit of that country”.
Former President Kufuor said his calm demeanour belied his strength of persistence and conviction which he amply displayed in his fight against apartheid.
This he once again demonstrated during his protracted illness as he stoutly hung on to life.
“Surely, there can only be one Mandela and the world will find it hard to find another like him.
“Now that he is gone, all of us, leaders and citizens, can only take lessons from his long and illustrious life and hope to replicate it in one form or the other for the good of mankind.
“Fare thee well, dear friend and senior colleague. May you find perpetual rest in the Lord,” the statement said.
Former President Mandela, died on Thursday after a long illness. GNA
