Mother of conjoined twins refuses to accept babies
The 16-year-old mother of the conjoined twins delivered at the Central Regional Hospital Tuesday has refused to accept the children.
The teenage mother, who is said to be traumatised, is yet to set eyes on her children.
Medical Director of the Central Regional Hospital, Daniel Asare, explained to Joy News the babies are joined in the chest, and are doing well. The babies share one heart but have different stomachs.
Doctors have advised against any attempts to separate them. The social welfare department in the region is persuading the mother to accept the babies.
Joy News’ Central regional correspondent, Richard Kojo Nyarko, who spoke to the mother of the babies said the mother is terrified by the turn of events.
She is said to also be in fear of ridicule by members of her community because of her babies.
The father of the babies according to the babies’ mother has refused to support.
Meanwhile, the twins have been referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for further medical observation.
