The chiefs and people of Asafo-Akyem have pledged to donate land to government for the establishment of the Eastern Region University and Regional Hospital.
A statement signed by Nana Baah Ammentem, Krontihene/Acting Chief of Asafo-Akyem, copied to the Ghana News Agency on Friday, said they wanted to inform President John Dramani Mahama and the entire nation of their intention to make land available lfor those projects.
It said Asafo-Akyem had, since the 1970s, made available parcels of land for town and government projects and is ready to give more land for the construction of those to facilities as well as an office for the Member of Parliament.
The statement noted that a formal declaration of the offer was being made ready for presentation to the government through the Eastern Regional Minister.
It said Asafo-Akyem, which is located on the Kumasi/Apedwa highway, is most accessible and more centrally located in the Eastern Region, hencea suitable location for the Eastern Region University and Regional Hospital.
The statement also congratulated Mrs Helen Ntoso, the new Eastern Regional Minister and assured her of their maximum cooperation during her tenure of office. GNA
