‘Ice cube’ stormy rain leaves one dead in Tamale

A heavy downpour accompanied by “ice cube” drops in Tamale and its environs on Thursday killed a 76-year- old man and rendered many residents in Kalpohin village homeless.

Mr Nii Otu Ankrah, Public Relations Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital who confirmed the death to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tamale on Friday, said the body had been handed over to the family.

The rain lasted for a little over two hours and was accompanied by heavy storm, thunder and the “ice cubes” and destroyed kiosks and ripped of the roofs of many buildings.

A victim Madam Hawah Alhassan, an expectant mother, told the GNA that she was sitting on her bed when she saw that the roof had been ripped off.

She said she did not know where the family would sleep and what to wear because the storm blew away most of their belongings including clothing. GNA
