Fire outbreaks have become rampant in the last few months and there have been reports of such every week since the beginning of the year 2013.
Aside of the huge financial implications these fire disasters might cause to the business and property owners, there is also the loss caused to the third parties as well.
To this end, the Insurancee Companies and Insurance Brokers have taken the responsibility of providing further education on the policies that they underwrite by sponsoring some of their staff to attend a day workshop in Accra today.
The ‘Fire Workshop’ according to Madam Ekua Ahimba Hayford, Chief Operation Office for Halcyone Associates Limited, the sole organizers of the workshop, is designed to equip the participants with knowledge and skills on fire risks, the insurance underwriting considerations and risk management strategies as well as the compulsory fire insurance and insurance claims process.
Among the resource persons at the workshop were Mr. Osman Abudu, head of Risk Management Unit of Enterprise Insurance Company with an Advanced diploma in Insurance from the Malta International Training Center as well as a BSc. in Chemical Engineering, and DCOP Kwame Kwarteng; Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, whose is currently completing his MPhil in Risk Management and Insurance at the University of Ghana, Legon, and holds a BSc. Administration Insurance Option from the same University, who also provided participants with basic fire awareness training including a practical demonstration on the use of fire fighting equipments.
Some participants at the workshop cited that the workshop has given them more knowledge on fire safety not at their companies only but would go along to keep their personal dwellings safety from fire out break and hope share the knowledge they gained at the workshop with their clients and their households.
