Black Stars Kwasi Appiah has named his final 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko Rashid Sumaila failed to make the cut for the January 19 to February 10 tournament, scheduled for the ‘rainbow’ nation.
Appiah had the easiest task of dropping one player after midfielder Andre Ayew was axed from the team after failing to report for assessment by the medical team of the Black Stars. Earlier, Yahaya Mohamed of Amidaus Professionals pulled out due to to injury.
The Stars trainer named his final squad after Wednesday’s training in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates before the Confederation of African Football (CAF) deadline of close of day.
Ten members of the team will be making their debut at the tournament including Richard Kissi Boateng, who together with club mate Solomon Asante as well as goalies Fatau Dauda and Daniel Agyei, are based locally.
The Stars are scheduled to play Egypt and Tunisia before departing for South Africa.
The four-time African champions are housed in Group D alongside DR Congo, Mali and Niger.
