Police to meet Hohoe North Constituency parties to resolve controversy

Mr Joseph Antwi Gyawu, Hohoe Divisional Commander and Chair of the Security taskforce is meeting the representatives of the political parties in the Hohoe North Constituency this morning to resolve a dispute over the electoral results.

The collation of results was suspended last night following allegations by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters that the contents of a ballot box from the Likpe Bakua JHS Polling Centre had been tampered with.

The NPP supporters also alleged that they had discovered five empty ballot boxes on the compound of the Ghana Cocoa Board Conference, the collation centre.

The NPP supporters, who were monitoring the exercise, consequently, contested the National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters and officials of the Electoral Commission over their issues.

Mr John-Peter Amewu, an observer and NPP activist, told the GNA that they suspected foul play and had, consequently, reported the matter to the Police.

However, Mr George Anni Bansah, Leader of the NDC Collation team, rejected the NPP’s claims, explaining that all the polling agents of the various political parties had already endorsed the results.

He expressed optimism that the issue would be resolved amicable for the full results to be released.

Meanwhile, the collation exercise has resumed. GNA
