The National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has initiated 237 projects in 14 metropolitan and municipal assemblies throughout the country at a total cost of GHc24,953,727.67.
Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development made this disclosure at Sakumono on Tuesday when he commissioned two Social Investment Fund and Urban Poverty Reduction (SIF/UPR) projects classroom blocks costing Ghc258,000 at separate ceremonies at Sakumono and Lashibi and handed them over to the Tema Metropolitan Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
He said the 237 projects include nurses quarters, abattoirs, school blocks, libraries, toilets, clinics, ICT centres and modern markets among others.
The two six-unit classroom blocks for the Sakumono TMA primary schools and the Old Lashibi cluster of schools, he said, comprised reading rooms, offices, W/C washrooms.
Mr Ofosu Ampofo said the projects were a manifestation of the NDC’s Government commitment to provide accessible and quality educational infrastructure for schools.
He assured the school authorities that the classrooms would be equipped with the necessary logistics to enhance effective teaching and learning.
He entreated the beneficiary schools of the classroom blocks, which were co-sponsored by the TMA, the Parent-Teacher Associations and the Divisional Councils at Sakumono and Lashibi, to take good care of the structures. GNA
