A one-storey office building for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the Brong-Ahafo Region valued at about GHC400, 000 was inaugurated in Sunyani on Tuesday.
Work on the building, expansion and refurbishment of an old office, started in November 2009 with funding from the government and the Royal Netherlands Government under the Natural Resources and Environment Governance (NREG) Programme.
It is comprised of six rooms for the staff, a conference room, a resource centre, a laboratory, nine places of convenience and a kitchen.
Mrs Philomena Boakye Appiah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of EPA, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that a facility for water harvesting had been provided as part of the design.
She explained that the provision of water harvesting facility contributed to the “green economy”, saying that was setting the pace for other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to emulate.
Mrs Appiah said in addition to being environmentally-friendly, the facility would reduce the amount spent on water bills and solar panels would be installed soon to augment their electricity requirement. GNA
