Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly inaugurates Health Advocacy Team

Ajumako – The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly has inaugurated District Health Advocacy Team (DHAT) to play a role in improving the health of the people.

It is under the chairmanship of Nana Oguamon Atwer III, Twafohen of Breman Essiam.

Mr Peter Light Koomson, the District Chief Executive for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, inaugurating the 26-member team expressed the Assembly’s gratitude to the Behaviour Change Support Project (BSC) and the training of members in health advocacy skills.

Mr Koomson said t health issues, particularly management of waste, had been a great challenge to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

He assured them that DHAT action plan would be incorporated into the Assembly’s programmes for the next fiscal year and expressed regret at the low revenue collection by the Assembly and said as at May 31, the Assembly collected 23% of the projected revenue for the year.

He attributed the Assembly’s poor performance on lack of supervision of revenue collectors and possible collusion of some of the collectors with some traders.

Mr Koomson said measures to improve revenue generation by the Assembly had been introduced and these include adequate logistics for the finance department to enhance field supervision of revenue collectors, sensitisation of the people on the importance of observing their civic responsibilities and identifying revenue collectors with either special uniforms or ID cards.

He said any revenue collector caught indulging in fraudulent deals would be sanctioned.

Mr Koomson said the Assembly was collaborating with the traditional authorities and youth associations for a district festival to be instituted to open up the district and to attract investors.

Mr Solomon Cobbina, the Presiding Member, expressed concern about numerous speed ramps that had been erected in the district and that the ramps posed danger to the lives of both motorists and pedestrians.

Mr Joseph Kojo Mensah, Assembly member for Opantsir Electoral Area appealed to his colleagues not to make their party affiliations over-cloud their patriotic responsibilities to the district. GNA
