Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III, Queenmother of the Denkyira Traditional Area, on Tuesday called on Ghanaians to use the passing away of the late President John Atta Mills to stand firm to forge unity and peace for the forthcoming elections.
She said this was imperative on all since the late President stood for and preached peace and unity throughout his life as a statesman and that he had left a legacy too enviable to destroy.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Cape Coast, Nana Ayensua Saara said, “We the people of Denkyira learnt with great shock and disbelief the sudden call to the village of our dear President His Excellence Professor John Evans Atta Mills”.
“On behalf of the Denkyirahene, Odeefuo Boa Amponsem III, the chiefs and people of Denkyira, I send my deepest and heartfelt condolence to the people of Ghana, the Government, the National Democratic Congress and most especially the wife of the Late president, Dr Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills during this most difficult period.”
She described the late President as a fine gentleman whose humility, tolerance and tenacity were unparalleled, a great leader who always sought peace and development for his people.
The Denkyirhemaa prayed for God’s guidance, wisdom and all what it takes for the new President Mr John Dramani Mahama to continue to bring peace, unity and development to Ghana.
The late President died at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on July 24 after a short illness. He is the first President to have died in office. GNA
